In a move that has both disappointed and reassured fans, Rockstar Games has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto VI will now launch on May 26, 2026, a full year later than the previously expected Fall 2025 release window.
“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected,” Rockstar said in a heartfelt statement on their website. “The excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling. We need extra time to deliver the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
Rockstar emphasized that the delay reflects their commitment to creating a game that lives up to the massive hype. After the overwhelming reaction to the first trailer released in December 2023, fans have been eagerly awaiting more — but Trailer 2 is still nowhere in sight.
What We Know About GTA VI So Far
Set in a modern-day Vice City, GTA VI will introduce Lucia, the franchise’s first female protagonist, in a narrative reportedly inspired by the infamous criminal duo Bonnie and Clyde.
Despite the new release date, Rockstar hasn’t confirmed whether the game will come to PC, focusing only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at this point — leaving PC gamers still in limbo.
