Meta and Xbox Team Up for New VR Headset
Leaked images suggest Meta is preparing to launch a Quest 3S Xbox Edition VR headset. The packaging features Xbox branding. An all-black headset with a green-accented faceplate was shown, including an Xbox controller and Elite strap in the box. Reports claim this bundle also includes three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. It will reportedly launch on June 24, 2025. The Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition will retail at $399 with 128GB storage, aiming to be more budget-friendly than premium models.
Xbox Quest 3S to Support Cloud Gaming and Horizon OS
Unlike PS VR2, the Quest 3S Xbox Edition is a standalone headset and doesn’t require a console or PC to function. It won’t have exclusive VR titles, but it supports Xbox Cloud Gaming and the entire Quest app library on Horizon OS. Meta first teased Xbox’s involvement in April 2024 when it announced Horizon OS licensing to third-party hardware makers. That announcement led to speculation about an Xbox-branded headset, now seemingly confirmed with this Xbox Quest 3S leak.
Microsoft’s Strategy Favors Hardware Partnerships
This headset follows Microsoft’s broader hardware strategy. The Asus ROG Xbox Ally was recently revealed earlier this month. Microsoft is focusing more on partnerships, abandoning its own handheld hardware projects to support Windows-based gaming. Xbox fans could benefit from this approach, gaining more choice and flexibility in how and where they play their games. If confirmed, the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition could mark a major step toward accessible, cloud-focused VR for Xbox players.
