Call of Juarez Could Finally Return After 12 Years in the Wild West

Techland May Revive the Classic Western FPS
Techland, known for its zombie parkour hit Dying Light, is reportedly developing a new Call of Juarez game. The franchise, famous for its unique Western setting, was once a hidden gem during the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 era.
The last game, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, launched in 2013. After that, the series went silent. Techland regained the rights from Ubisoft in 2018 but never confirmed a new project — until now.
Industry Layoffs and Canceled Games
Recent gaming news has been filled with layoffs and cancellations, especially across Xbox studios. Techland also scrapped two secret projects last week. One of these was reportedly a Star Wars-inspired RPG called Project Cornerstone.
Despite setbacks, fans can look forward to Dying Light: The Beast this summer. Originally an expansion for Dying Light 2, it has grown into a standalone game with a tighter focus and scale.
Call of Juarez Rumored to Be in Unreal Engine 5
According to Insider Gaming, Techland’s new Call of Juarez is in development. It’s said to use Unreal Engine 5 instead of Techland’s old Chrome Engine.
Fans are curious if this new title will be a sequel or a full reboot. Many players also hope for a remastered collection of the original games, but reports suggest the focus is on a single new game for now.
When Will We See It?
The new Call of Juarez has reportedly been in development “for some time.” An official reveal is still pending. However, with Dying Light: The Beast launching this August, Techland might announce the Western FPS revival soon after.
A reveal at The Game Awards this December could give fans their first look at this long-awaited comeback.
Final Thoughts
If you loved the old Western shootouts of Call of Juarez, keep your eyes on Techland’s next move. This revival could bring a fresh gunslinging adventure for a whole new generation.
