Ubisoft Reportedly Canceled Assassin’s Creed Game Featuring the KKK

Ubisoft May Have Cancelled a Reconstruction-Era Assassin’s Creed Game
Reports claim Ubisoft scrapped a post-Civil War Assassin’s Creed title in 2024. The project reportedly focused on the Reconstruction era (1865–1877), exploring the South after slavery was abolished. So they had to Cancelled the Assassin’s Creed Game.
cancelled Assassin’s Creed Game Would Have Featured the KKK as Enemies
According to Game File’s Stephen Totilo, the main character would have been a formerly enslaved Black man recruited by the Assassins. His mission: to fight for justice and face the Ku Klux Klan, which was established during that period.
Political Climate Reportedly Drove the Cancellation
Ubisoft’s leadership in Paris reportedly cancelled the project due to growing political instability in the United States. The decision followed concerns that the game’s themes were “too political” for the current climate.
Assassin’s Creed Yasuke Backlash Also a Minor Factor
The controversy surrounding Assassin’s Creed Shadows and its Black samurai protagonist, Yasuke, reportedly influenced the decision slightly. However, sources say the main reason was Ubisoft’s fear of political backlash.
Timing Linked to U.S. Political Unrest in 2024–2025
The reported cancellation came around July 2024, coinciding with the attempted assassination of then-President-elect Donald Trump. Later events, including the 2025 assassination of far-right podcaster Charlie Kirk, highlighted the same instability Ubisoft cited.
Fans React to the Cancelled Concept
Some fans expressed disappointment, calling the cancelled idea “a bold step in historical storytelling.” Others agreed with Ubisoft’s caution, saying it could have triggered backlash in today’s polarized environment.

Haha, well isnt *this* a twist!Ubisoft being *too scared* to let a Black man fight the KKK in a game? Sounds like they need a dose of the courage Yasuke apparently had! Maybe theyre worried about too much history causing too much controversy. The irony is thicker than uncrushed gravel. Guess theyll stick to hiding in shadows instead of *literally* dealing with them. What a bold move,取消ing a potentially amazing story because of political instability… which they themselves helped create with past controversies? Talk about canceling cancellation! Time to take a stand, Ubisoft! Or just stick to historical *fiction* that avoids the messy truth.

Haha, couldn’t agree more! It really does feel ironic — Assassin’s Creed has always flirted with bold historical settings, yet this time Ubisoft might’ve pulled back just when things could’ve gotten truly meaningful. A Reconstruction-era story tackling real issues like the KKK could’ve been one of the franchise’s most powerful narratives. Maybe someday they’ll find the courage to explore that kind of raw history without worrying too much about backlash. Until then, we’ll just keep imagining what could’ve been!
