Battlefield 6 Clarifies How It Will Use SBMM in Multiplayer Matchmaking

Developers from Battlefield Studios have officially revealed how Battlefield 6 will use Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM) in multiplayer. After years of waiting, Battlefield 6 is finally set to release on October 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

EA recently released the reveal and multiplayer trailers, confirming earlier leaks and updates shared through the Battlefield Labs testing program. Players will soon experience the gameplay changes during the open beta. Longtime fans are eager to see if Battlefield 6 can match the legacy of Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4.

Battlefield 6 SBMM Won’t Be the Only Factor in Matchmaking

During the multiplayer reveal event, developers confirmed that SBMM will be present in Battlefield 6 but won’t be the only matchmaking factor. According to a report by MP1st, other variables like server fullness, ping, and player location will also affect matchmaking. This hybrid system aims to reduce stress while still promoting fair, balanced matches.

For instance, large-scale Conquest battles may prioritize full lobbies over skill. Meanwhile, competitive modes like Team Deathmatch may apply SBMM more strongly. This flexible approach is designed to meet the needs of both casual and serious players.

Battlefield 6 Portal Will Offer Custom Matchmaking Options

Battlefield Portal is also making a return. This community-driven feature lets players create and browse custom matches based on their own rules. Those frustrated by SBMM can explore the Portal for a more relaxed and tailored experience.

Whether the matchmaking system satisfies all players remains to be seen. The upcoming beta will reveal how well these balancing efforts work in live gameplay. Player feedback during testing will help Battlefield Studios make further adjustments before launch.
