Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Will Feature Night City and a Dystopian ‘Chicago Gone Wrong’

Cyberpunk 2077 Project Orion

CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed Project Orion, remains shrouded in secrecy. However, Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith has revealed a few intriguing details.

Speaking at Digital Dragons 2025, Pondsmith discussed his limited involvement in Project Orion’s development. Although less involved than before, he still provides script reviews and feedback.

“Last week I was wandering around talking to different departments,” Pondsmith said. “They showed me new cyberware designs and asked for feedback.”

He revealed that Project Orion will include a new city alongside Night City, hinting at a more expansive world than Cyberpunk 2077.

“There’s another city we visit,” Pondsmith teased. “It doesn’t feel like Blade Runner. It feels like Chicago gone wrong.”

The new city isn’t confirmed to be Chicago itself, but rather has its atmosphere and visual grit, shaped by dystopian themes.

Pondsmith added he was impressed by how this new city differs from Night City while still fitting within the Cyberpunk universe.

While it’s unclear how the game will treat Night City’s return, there’s growing speculation that both cities could be fully playable.

This teases a larger open world, hinting at multiple hubs with distinct identities, factions, and cyberpunk aesthetics.

Cyberpunk 2077 sold over 30 million copies, and its Shadow of the Erdtree-sized sequel is already highly anticipated by fans worldwide.

Stay tuned for more details as CD Projekt unveils new information about Project Orion, possibly leading up to its first trailer or concept reveal.
