Hogwarts Legacy Sequel Might Bring PvP and Online Multiplayer to the Wizarding World

Big things may be brewing at Avalanche Software! A new job posting from WB Games hints that the highly anticipated Hogwarts Legacy sequel could feature multiplayer gameplay, including both PvP (player vs. player) and PvE (player vs. environment) elements.

The magical open-world RPG took the world by storm in 2023, becoming the best-selling game of the year, even surpassing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Thanks to this success, a sequel is officially in development, and based on this job listing, it might bring a fresh online twist.

‍♂️ Multiplayer in the Wizarding World?

WB Games’ job listing for Avalanche Software explicitly mentions “PvP, PvE, matchmaking, and live service” under a section called “Story Integration in Multiplayer Systems.” This suggests that Hogwarts Legacy 2 might be leaning into online features in some capacity, although it’s unclear how deeply these systems will tie into the core story.

Some fans are speculating that the game could follow a format similar to Elden Ring, which featured a single-player narrative with optional online elements. Others worry WB Games might be going full live-service — a risky move, given the company’s recent missteps.

WB Games’ Track Record with Multiplayer

To be fair, WB Games hasn’t had the best run with live service titles lately. Gotham Knights failed to gain traction, MultiVersus is shutting down (again), and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was pulled offline less than a year after launch. Despite these stumbles, the publisher seems eager to try again — this time with one of its most beloved IPs.

Still Early Days

It’s worth noting that this is likely very early in the game’s development. Plans for multiplayer and live service features could evolve (or even be scrapped entirely) as the game progresses. Fans still hoping for a rich, immersive single-player Hogwarts experience shouldn’t lose hope just yet.

For now, it’s a waiting game. But one thing is clear: Avalanche Software is brewing something big, and Hogwarts Legacy’s magical world might get a whole lot more social in the sequel.
