Rumor: God of War 2025 Spin-Off Will Be a 2.5D Metroidvania

Rumor Suggests a New God of War Game Is Coming in 2025
A fresh rumor suggests a new God of War game could be on the way, and it’s not what fans expected.
Speculation has circulated since God of War Ragnarok’s Valhalla DLC launched in late 2023, fueling curiosity about Kratos’ future.
That DLC ended the Norse saga, but it hinted that Kratos or Atreus might return in new stories.
A 2.5D Metroidvania God of War Spin-Off?
Insiders claim the next God of War game may feature a 2.5D Metroidvania style, similar to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
Jeff Grubb and Tom Henderson discussed this rumored project on Twitter, calling it a major shift from the usual 3D formula.
It might be a smaller, standalone prequel like Spider-Man: Miles Morales or The Last of Us: Left Behind.
Could It Release During the 20th Anniversary?
The franchise turns 20 in 2025, making this a fitting time to try something new and exciting with Kratos.
No developer has been confirmed yet—Santa Monica Studio may be involved, or it could be handled externally.
The game may appear during Sony’s June 4 State of Play or Summer Game Fest on June 6.
Could Remasters Also Be on the Way?
Some rumors suggest PlayStation is also working on remasters of older God of War titles to mark the series milestone.
For now, fans will have to wait for official confirmation. But a new God of War game sounds more likely than ever.
