The Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5 following weeks of hectic pre-orders. By June 8, Nintendo confirmed over 3.5 million consoles were sold worldwide across all configurations. That includes regional bundles like the Mario Kart World Edition. In comparison, the original Switch sold 2.7 million units in its first month back in 2017. The Switch 2 crushed that number in just four days.

Nintendo says better hardware and exciting launch bundles helped the console succeed. The Switch 2 features an upgraded Nvidia processor and DLSS upscaling, improving visuals and performance. Older games like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and Super Mario Odyssey now run better with free downloadable updates. The console is physically larger but remains familiar. The Joy-Con 2 controllers and smoother gameplay experience enhance how fans enjoy both old and new titles.

Retailers like Walmart and Target faced rapid sellouts on launch day. Nintendo anticipated this, sending “out of stock” signs to stores ahead of time. However, Nintendo has not revealed numbers for each bundle type yet.
