PlayStation Plus Prices Hiked in Canada — Here’s What Subscribers Need to Know

PlayStation Plus Subscription Prices Just Got More Expensive in Canada
PlayStation gamers in Canada are waking up to some disappointing news: the price of PlayStation Plus is going up again. This latest hike follows similar increases in Latin America and other regions, making Canada the newest country to feel the pinch of Sony’s global pricing changes.
Starting now, Canadian subscribers will see up to a 22.6% increase in annual fees. Whether you’re on the Essential, Extra, or Premium tier, you’re going to have to shell out more if you want to stay subscribed.
Here’s a breakdown of the new annual pricing for Canadian users:
-
Essential: Now CAD $109.99 (up $15)
-
Extra: Now CAD $189.99 (up $35)
-
Premium: Now CAD $249.99 (up $35)
If you prefer to pay monthly or quarterly, you’re not off the hook — those plans could cost you up to CAD $75 more per year, especially if you’re on the Premium tier.
Why the Price Hike?
Sony says this restructuring is a response to global market conditions, and it wants to ensure that players continue to get access to high-quality games. While that may sound fair, many users are still feeling the sting — especially since this isn’t the first increase.
The last major global price bump came in 2023, where all three PlayStation Plus tiers saw jumps. Back then, the Essential plan jumped by around 33% — and now, it’s rising again.
Not Just PlayStation — Game Prices Are Rising Everywhere
This price hike is part of a broader trend. Game development costs have soared, and companies are adjusting subscription models and game prices accordingly. For example:
-
️ Nintendo Switch 2 games are rumoured to launch at $90 CAD for physical copies and $80 CAD for digital downloads.
-
Former Sony exec Shawn Layden recently said game prices should have increased gradually over console generations — but now, we’re seeing the catch-up all at once.
While price increases are never fun, Sony maintains that it’s committed to delivering value through exclusive games, services, and perks. Whether that’s enough to justify the price depends on how you use your subscription.
